    BUILDING APPLICATION

    Sub-Slab Applications

One granular layer. Multiple below-slab functions.

Enviro-Rock is a foam glass aggregate used beneath concrete slabs as a free-draining, gas-permeable, and insulating granular layer. With approximately 42% void space and a design thermal value of approximately R-2 per inch, it can contribute to drainage, soil-gas movement, and thermal performance within the sub-slab assembly.

Lightweight under-slab fill using Enviro-Rock foam glass aggregate beneath a concrete slab

    Overview

The granular layer beneath a slab can serve several functions, including drainage, capillary-break performance, thermal resistance, and movement of soil gas toward a collection point where a radon-control system is required.

Enviro-Rock combines these functions within an open foam-glass aggregate layer. Its interconnected void space allows water and soil gas to move through the material, while its thermal resistance can also contribute to the overall below-slab insulation strategy.

    Key Uses

    • Beneath slab-on-grade construction
    • Gas-permeable layers for radon-control assemblies
    • Sub-slab drainage and capillary-break layers
    • Below-slab thermal insulation
    • Basements and below-grade occupied spaces
    • Residential and commercial floor assemblies
    • Heated slab applications
    • Assemblies combining drainage, gas movement, and insulation

    Key Performance Considerations

    Enviro-Rock sub-slab drainage and permeability

    Drainage & Permeability

    ~42% Void Space

Provides an open, free-draining granular layer beneath slabs for drainage and capillary-break performance.

    Enviro-Rock gas-permeable sub-slab layer for radon control

    Radon Gas Pathway

    Gas-Permeable Layer

The open void structure provides a pathway for soil gas to move toward a collection and venting system as part of a designed radon-control assembly.

Enviro-Rock thermal insulation beneath concrete slabs

    Thermal Insulation

    ~R-2 per inch

Allows the same granular sub-slab layer to contribute thermal resistance within the below-grade floor assembly.
