    BUILDING APPLICATION

    Swimming Pools

Insulating, free-draining support around the pool.

Enviro-Rock is a lightweight foam glass aggregate used beneath and around swimming pools where drainage, thermal performance, and stable granular support are important. Its closed-cell structure provides insulating performance while the open aggregate matrix allows water to drain through the fill surrounding the pool structure.

    Key Uses

    • Beneath swimming pool foundations
    • Backfill around pool walls and shells
    • Insulating fill around heated pools
    • Drainage layers surrounding pool structures
    • Pools over weak or compressible soils
    • Replacement for heavier conventional granular fill
    • Hot tubs and other heated water structures

    Overview

Swimming pools require stable support while also managing water around the structure and limiting heat loss into the surrounding ground. Conventional granular fill can provide drainage but contributes little thermal resistance and adds considerably more weight.

Enviro-Rock provides a lightweight, free-draining granular layer beneath and around the pool structure. Its insulating properties can help create a thermal break between a heated pool shell and the surrounding ground, while its open structure helps prevent water buildup within the surrounding fill.

    Key Performance Considerations

Enviro-Rock thermal insulation around swimming pools

    Thermal Insulation

    ~R-2 per inch

Can help reduce heat transfer through the pool floor and surrounding structure where Enviro-Rock forms part of the insulated assembly.

Enviro-Rock drainage and permeability around swimming pools

    Drainage & Permeability

    ~42% Void Space

Provides an open, free-draining granular layer around the pool structure and beneath surrounding slabs and hardscape.

Enviro-Rock compressive performance beneath swimming pool assemblies

    Compressive Performance

    ~1.0 MPa at ~20% compaction

Confined compressive performance supports use beneath pool floors, surrounding slabs, and other loaded granular fill areas.
