    BENEFITS & PROPERTIES

    Drainage & Permeability

Open voids allow water to move freely through the aggregate layer.

Enviro-Rock’s open-graded particle structure creates interconnected void spaces throughout the aggregate mass, allowing water to drain through the fill rather than becoming trapped. This makes it useful where drainage, pressure relief, and moisture management are important to long-term performance.

    Free-Draining Performance
Allows water to pass through the aggregate layer and drain away rather than remain trapped.

    Interconnected Void Space
Open spaces between particles create continuous pathways for water movement.

    Capillary Break

The coarse aggregate structure helps interrupt upward capillary moisture movement.

    Why Drainage & Permeability Matters

Water trapped within granular fill can contribute to increased pore pressure, hydrostatic loading, frost-related issues, and reduced long-term performance.

Enviro-Rock’s open-graded structure provides interconnected void space between particles, allowing water to move through the aggregate layer and toward the intended drainage system. This helps maintain a free-draining fill zone around foundations, retaining structures, utilities, and other below-grade applications.

Drainage requirements and outlet conditions should always be considered as part of the overall project design.

Where Drainage & Permeability Makes a Difference

    Retaining Wall Backfill

Helps provide a free-draining backfill zone and reduce the potential for water pressure buildup behind retaining structures.

    Foundations & Below-Grade Assemblies

Allows water to move through the aggregate layer toward perimeter drainage while also serving as lightweight fill.

    Utility Trenches & Buried Infrastructure

Provides an open drainage path around buried services where water movement through the backfill is important.
