    BENEFITS & PROPERTIES

    Closed-Cell Structure

Sealed internal cells. Open drainage pathways.

Enviro-Rock is formed with a cellular glass structure containing sealed air pockets within each particle. These closed internal cells help limit water penetration into the particle, while the open spaces between aggregate pieces allow water to move freely through the placed material.

    Moisture Resistant
Closed Cells limit water penetration into the
    particle interior.

    Sealed Cell Structure

Individual cells remain isolated rather than forming continuous pathways through the particle.

    Why Closed-Cell Structure Matters

Enviro-Rock contains a network of sealed air pockets formed within the glass during manufacturing. Unlike an open-cell material, these internal pores are not intended to act as interconnected pathways for water through the particle.

At the same time, Enviro-Rock particles create substantial open void space when placed together. Water can therefore drain through the spaces between the particles while the closed-cell structure helps limit water penetration into the particles themselves.

This combination is important in below-grade and civil applications where drainage, moisture resistance, low weight, thermal performance, and long-term material stability may all be required from the same fill layer.

Where Closed- Cell Structure Makes a Difference

    Retaining Wall Backfill

Provides a moisture-resistant aggregate structure for backfill exposed to changing groundwater and site moisture conditions.

    Foundations & Sub-Slab

Closed-cell particles help limit internal moisture uptake in below-grade assemblies exposed to ground moisture.

    Roadways & Embankments

Closed-cell particles help maintain material performance where fill may experience repeated moisture exposure.
